According to San Jose Fire Capt. Rob Piper, emergency crews arrived at the single-story home on Annapolis Way around 3 p.m. and found Robert Kent, a retired man in his 50s, passed out on the kitchen floor. By that time, the fire, that had started in the kitchen and had spread to the attic, had consumed most of the house.
Kent was rushed to Valley Medical Center after sustaining second and third-degree burns on 50 percent of his body. He is listed in grave condition.
A smoke detector was not found on the property and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
